With the P30 and the P30 Pro, Huawei has two very well-equipped smartphones in its range. Both come out of the box with Android 10 operating system and the same Kirin 980 processor. However, the Huawei P30 Pro smartphone comes with some technical upgrades. You can find out exactly what these are and whether the extra charge for the larger Smartphone is worth it in our detailed comparison.

The display can do this

You get the Huawei P30 with a 6.1-inch display. Up to a certain point, the touchscreen can still be easily operated with one hand. However, if you prefer a larger display, the Huawei P30 Pro with its 6.47-inch display is ideal. Both smartphones have a resolution of 2340 × 1080 pixels and use OLED technology. This leads to higher contrast and black values. In terms of color rendering and energy efficiency, this panel is also superior to classic LCD or IPS displays.

The Huawei P30 offers you decent camera performance. In addition to the 40-megapixel main camera, there is a 16-megapixel wide-angle lens and the 8-megapixel telephoto camera. The 3x optical zoom is practical. The Promodel, however, offers an optical magnification of five times. A lens with 40 megapixels and the 8 megapixel telephoto camera are also used here. However, the difference is made up of the ultra-wide sensor. Here it has a resolution of 20 instead of 16 megapixels. The three rear cameras of the Huawei P30 Pro are complemented by a ToF lens. The time of flight sensor built into it provides additional depth information. The result is faster and more precise autofocus. With both smartphones you benefit from optical image stabilization and the 4K camcorder with 30 fps. The front cameras of both cell phones have 32 megapixels. They record videos in Full HD.

Performance and storage

As mentioned, both devices share the same Kirin 980 processor. It is an octa core with four high-performance Cortex-A76 and four energy-saving Cortex-A55 cores. It is clocked at up to 2.6 GHz. There are no differences when playing. The Mali G76 MP10 graphics unit works in both devices. The Huawei P30 is equipped with 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of device storage. The Huawei P30 Pro has 6 or 8 GB of RAM and 128 or 256 GB of internal storage, depending on the configuration. Both cell phones can be retrofitted with memory. However, this is not done via micro SD as before but via special nano memory cards. These were developed and brought onto the market by Huawei itself.

Battery and charging

The  Huawei P30 comes with a 3650 mAh battery. The Huawei P30 Pro is slightly larger at 4200 mAh. However, this only compensates for the additional Display diagonal. In terms of runtime, the basic model is even slightly better. However, you should be able to get through the day easily with both smartphones. The Huawei P30 is charged exclusively via USB C with up to 25 watts (SuperCharge). The  Huawei P30 Pro even manages up to 40 watts (30 minutes for 70%) and also supports wireless charging with up to 15 watts.

Weight and dimensions

If you are looking for a relatively compact and handy Smartphone, the Huawei P30 is 165 grams and 149 × 71 × 7 mm is the better choice. The Smartphone with the Pro addition, however, measures 158 × 73 × 8 mm. Its weight is noticeably higher at 192 grams. Nevertheless, it is lighter than one or other Smartphone with a battery of over 5000 mAh.

Both the Huawei P30 Pro and the Huawei P30 do without the fast 5G mobile communications standard. Both support WLAN-ac and Bluetooth 5.0 and NFC. Both devices have an infrared transmitter that you can use to control a television, for example.

The Huawei P30 Pro has IP68 certification. This officially protects it from damage caused by water and dust. For the smaller and slightly cheaper Smartphone only an IP53 certification is specified. So you can only assume splash water protection.

Color selection and prices

Both the small and the large P30 Smartphone can be ordered in the color variants Black, Aurora and Breathing Crystal. Prices start at 375 EUR for the Huawei P30 and end at 1025 EUR in the case of the Huawei P30 Pro with 8 GB RAM.
